Breast Pumps
avent manual & electric / automatic breast pumps
Breast pumps can be used for many reasons. Some mums return to work and still want to continue to use their own milk for the health benefit that breast milk provides (if it's of interest the world health organisation publish this data). The breast pumps are used to express milk which is later bottle fed to baby. Breast pumps may also be used to stimulate mums breast if she has a low milk supply, or who have not just given birth. Breast pumps may be used to relieve engorgement, a painful condition whereby the breasts are overfull, possibly preventing a proper latch by the infant. If a baby does not latch properly for direct breastfeeding, and the mother still desires the benefits of breast milk, mum may choose to pump exclusively. If mum needs to take medication that affects her breast milk and may be harmful to baby, mum may express to keep up her milk supply during the time period that she is on the medication and may resume nursing after the course of medication is completed. Mum may want to continue expressing milk to help recover from pregnancy even if the breast milk is not used. This is helpful because when breast milk is expressed hormones are released to help recover from pregnancy.
